There has been quite some time since my last post and this one. Although daily doings have kept me busy, I constantly found myself wondering about the concept of balance. What does that mean to have balance?

Webster defines it as, "the state of having your weight spread equally so that you do not fall." Chinese Medicine provides a visual, the yin yang symbol. A black and white image with equal parts woven and blending into the another.

The Webster definition, figuratively and literally, and the yin yang symbol are foundational reminders of the importance of balance. Balance is necessary. Necessary in every moment and every day.

Life can be chaotic. We each have our own chaos. A state of being that we choose. I use the word "chaos" not to describe negativity, aggression or confusion (though that may be what it is for you), but rather I prefer it to be described as a busy life filled with wonder and curiosity.

What is necessary to distribute our weight equally so that we do not fall?

A few ideas: making time for silence, meditating, exercise (even if it's 15 minutes), ensuring for a restful night of sleep, asking for help, and communicating your needs to a partner, spouse, friend or family member.

Above all, the most necessary task for maintaining balance is to keep the need and desire for balance in mind. When I feel as though my yang is blending into my yin or one side of my teeter totter is going to crash on the sand, I know I must honor that I need more of the other. I must seek to create balance.

It is my hope that this post creates a foundation and ignites a desire within you to find, create or continue to maintain balance in your life. It is a daily task. One that must be learned before it becomes innate.

Are you aware of your chaos?

Are you able to find balance amidst the chaos?

Are there some parts of your daily life that have more or less balance than others?

Balance is the gift of being able to enjoy and live fully in the chaos.
