Two Daily Musts for Health

One of the most common question I’m asked is, “Malerie, what’s your number one health recommendation?” This is a big question. My response is always the same, “It depends.” I know, I know, that’s not the answer you were hoping for, but it really does depend. It depends on several things.

  • It depends on what you’re wanting to accomplish.
  • It depends on which body – physical, mental, emotional or spiritual needs attention.
  • It depends on what you’re struggling with.
  • It depends on where you are in the process.

To sum it up, it depends on you and where you are in your health and healing journey.

Generally speaking, there are Two Daily Musts I find myself recommending to almost everyone. These Two Daily Musts will ensure a righteous path. They can be applied at any stage in your healing journey.

Here are my Two Daily Musts for Health:

#1 Focus on One Health Concern 

It’s so easy to beat ourselves down with all that is “wrong with us.” When we do this we become scattered, negative, and often defeated. This then leads to feeling overwhelmed, hopeless and helpless.

Instead, focus on one health concern. This daily must makes it easier to stay on track and achieve results. It also takes away the stressor of needing to do it. 

Here’s the cool part. Our entire body is connected. Everything is linked. Often times when one concern is resolved, another will resolve as well. In a way, we’re like Christmas lights. When one light goes out several following go out too. Then when that one gets fixed, they all light up again!

Your concern can be any acute or chronic issue. If you choose a chronic issue, never mind the length of time you’ve been with that concern. Time is a distraction. Simply, choose what needs your attention. By doing so you’re choosing to help yourself.

To help you focus on one health concern, ask yourself these two questions:

  1. What area of my body needs my attention the most?
  2. What health concern do I want to overcome the most?

Ask yourself these two questions all day every day until you receive an answer.

What you want to focus on may come to you right away. If it doesn’t, here are a few common concerns. I want to be free of back pain. I want to feel less bloated. I want to be headache free. I want to lower my blood pressure without medication. I want to be free of allergies. I want to fix my gut. I want to be happy. I want to get pregnant.

Once you’ve decided on your concern, now focus your attention.

#2 Give It Attention

Take your chosen concern and give it attention every day. You’ll want and need this attention to be positive, uplifting and optimistic. For every negative thought, flip it to a positive thought. This can be difficult, but the more you practice the easier and more natural it will become.

Your mind is a powerful tool and it needs to be an active participant in your healing process. 

The type of attention you give is dependent on your concern. This may include physical exercise, food elimination, positive affirmations, allowing time for rest, and even taking herbal medicine regularly.

In addition, find practices and practitioners that will help you achieve your results. This may seem like a process in itself but stick with it. It’s like building a team. You want people around you who can and will help you achieve your goals. Henry Ford said it best, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” 

If you’re seeking help with this concern, ask yourself these two questions:

  1. How can I help myself overcome <insert your concern>?
  2. What do I need to do to help myself overcome <insert your concern>?

Just like Daily Must #1, you’ll want to ask yourself these questions all day every day until receiving an answer.

The answer to your questions can come in many forms. For instance, maybe a friend suggests a doctor that you’ve heard about many times, but never followed up on or a health book falls off a shelf or you read an article that provides guidance. There are many different ways to receive the answers to your questions. Allow yourself to be open to receive those answers.

To help you stay focused you may want to keep track of these Two Daily Musts. You can do this by installing a habit tracker app. I like HabitBull. You can also create a habit tracker in your day planner or by simply adding your habit to your digital calendar.

Here are two suggestions for what to track. Today, did I:

  • Stay focused on my one health concern?
  • Give that one concern the attention it needs?

These two Daily Musts for Health are the beginning. Yet, they will carry you through your entire health journey. They can be applied to any stage of your health journey. I encourage you to apply them to every day. Let yourself enjoy this process!
